California Turkey and Bacon Lettuce Wraps Recipe

Ingredients

For the Basil Mayo

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (try olive oil-based for a healthier option)
  • 6 large fresh basil leaves, torn
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Wraps

  • 1 head of sturdy lettuce (butter lettuce, romaine, or iceberg)
  • 8 slices deli turkey (oven-roasted is excellent)
  • 4 slices cooked bacon
  • 1 ripe avocado, thinly sliced
  • 1 roma tomato, thinly sliced

Instructions

1. Make the Basil Mayo

  • In a small food processor or blender, combine mayonnaise, basil leaves, lemon juice, and garlic.
  • Blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: The mayo can be made a day or two in advance and stored in the refrigerator.

2. Assemble the Wraps

  • Wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Choose large, sturdy leaves that will hold the fillings well.
  • Lay out two lettuce leaves. Spread a generous layer of basil mayo on each leaf.
  • Top with two slices of turkey per lettuce leaf.
  • Add one slice of bacon to each wrap.
  • Arrange avocado and tomato slices on top.
  • Season lightly with salt and pepper (be careful with salt as the bacon is already salty).

3. Wrap it Up

  • Fold the bottom of the lettuce leaf up, then fold in the sides.
  • Continue rolling the lettuce leaf like a burrito, tucking in the filling as you go.
  • Slice each wrap in half for easier serving.

Tips

Get Creative: Feel free to add other vegetables like cucumbers, sprouts, or thinly shredded carrots.

Choose Your Cheese: Add a slice of your favorite cheese like provolone, Swiss, or cheddar for extra flavor.

Spice it Up: If you like a little kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha to the basil mayo.

Enjoy your fresh and flavorful California Turkey and Bacon Lettuce Wraps!
