Ingredients:
Dry Ingredients:
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Wet Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
Apples:
- 3 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and diced
Optional Topping:
- 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Prep:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
Combine dry ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Combine wet ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the milk until the batter is smooth.
Fold in apples:
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
Bake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- If using the optional topping, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve:
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Cut into squares and serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
