Honey-Balsamic BBQ Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (Panko or plain)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Honey-Balsamic BBQ Sauce:

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

Make the Honey-Balsamic BBQ Sauce:

  • Combine all sauce ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until sauce thickens slightly.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Meatballs:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and lightly grease.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined (don’t overmix).
  • Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs (about 24- 28 meatballs).
  • Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Meatballs:

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through and lightly browned.

Finish and Serve:

  • Carefully toss the baked meatballs with the Honey-Balsamic BBQ sauce until evenly coated.
  • Serve warm with toothpicks as an appetizer, or over rice or pasta for a complete meal.

Tips:

  • Cooking options: Instead of baking, you can cook the meatballs in the sauce on the stovetop over low heat, or use a slow cooker set to low for 3-4 hours.
  • Make-ahead: Prepare the meatballs and sauce ahead of time. Store separately in the refrigerator and combine and heat when ready to serve.
  • Garnish: Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or green onions for a pop of color.

Enjoy your delicious Honey-Balsamic BBQ Meatballs!
