Everything Bagel Croutons Recipe

Ingredients

  • Stale bread: 4-5 cups cubed (about 1-inch cubes). Day-old bagels, sourdough, or another hearty bread work great.
  • Olive oil: 3-4 tablespoons

Everything but the Bagel seasoning:

  • 2-3 tablespoons (store-bought or see note for homemade version)
  • Optional additions: 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ½ cup finely grated Parmesan cheese (for extra cheesy flavor)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  • Cube the bread: Cut your stale bread into approximately 1-inch cubes. If the bread is very fresh, dry it out slightly in the oven on low heat for a few minutes first.
  • Toss with oil and seasoning: In a large bowl, drizzle the bread cubes with olive oil and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle the Everything but the Bagel seasoning (and the optional garlic powder, onion powder, and/or Parmesan if using) over the bread. Toss well to ensure even distribution.
  • Bake: Spread the seasoned bread cubes on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 12-15 minutes, tossing them halfway through the baking time for even browning. The croutons are done when golden, crispy, and fragrant.
  • Cool and store: Let the croutons cool completely on the baking sheet. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Tips

  • Bread choice: The best bread for croutons is a bit stale or at least a day old – it crisps up more beautifully.
  • Oil amount: Adjust the amount of oil depending on the bread type. More absorbent bread may need slightly more oil.
  • Homemade Everything Seasoning: If you don’t have store-bought seasoning, make your own by combining poppy seeds, sesame seeds (white and black), dried minced garlic, dried minced onion, and coarse sea salt.

Enjoy! These Everything Bagel Croutons are delicious on:
