Ingredients
For the Basil Mayo
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (try olive oil-based for a healthier option)
- 6 large fresh basil leaves, torn
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
For the Wraps
- 1 head of sturdy lettuce (butter lettuce, romaine, or iceberg)
- 8 slices deli turkey (oven-roasted is excellent)
- 4 slices cooked bacon
- 1 ripe avocado, thinly sliced
- 1 roma tomato, thinly sliced
Instructions
1. Make the Basil Mayo
- In a small food processor or blender, combine mayonnaise, basil leaves, lemon juice, and garlic.
- Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Make-Ahead Tip: The mayo can be made a day or two in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
2. Assemble the Wraps
- Wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Choose large, sturdy leaves that will hold the fillings well.
- Lay out two lettuce leaves. Spread a generous layer of basil mayo on each leaf.
- Top with two slices of turkey per lettuce leaf.
- Add one slice of bacon to each wrap.
- Arrange avocado and tomato slices on top.
- Season lightly with salt and pepper (be careful with salt as the bacon is already salty).
3. Wrap it Up
- Fold the bottom of the lettuce leaf up, then fold in the sides.
- Continue rolling the lettuce leaf like a burrito, tucking in the filling as you go.
- Slice each wrap in half for easier serving.
