Ingredients:
- 6 cups cubed, seedless watermelon (aim for the ripest you can find)
- 1/2 cup water
- Juice of 1-2 limes (depending on your preference)
- 2-4 tablespoons sugar, honey, or agave nectar (adjust to taste)
- Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
- Lime wedges, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Blend: Combine the watermelon cubes, water, and lime juice in a high-powered blender. Blend until completely smooth and liquefied.
- Sweeten (if desired): Taste the mixture. If the watermelon isn’t sweet enough, add your chosen sweetener a little at a time, blending and tasting until you reach your desired sweetness.
- Strain: Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher or container. Press the pulp with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the solids.
- Chill: Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and to serve it chilled.
- Serve: Pour the chilled agua fresca over ice in glasses. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and lime wedges, if desired.
Tips:
- Adjust to your taste: The lime and sweetener amounts are just starting points – feel free to make it tarter or sweeter to your liking.
- Get creative: Try adding other complementary flavors like a pinch of salt, a few slices of cucumber, or a touch of ginger.
- Make a big batch: This recipe is easily doubled or tripled for a crowd.
Enjoy your refreshing watermelon agua fresca!
