Yields: 2 servings
Prep time: 5 minutes
Blend time: 1 minute
Ingredients
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries add sweetness and antioxidants.
- 1 medium banana, frozen: Creates a creamy texture and adds natural sweetness.
- 1 orange, peeled and segmented: Provides vibrant flavor and vitamin C.
- ½ cup plain or vanilla yogurt: Adds creaminess and a protein boost. (Use your preferred type, including Greek yogurt)
- 1 cup orange juice: Base for the smoothie and enhances the citrus flavor.
- ½ cup ice (optional): Helps create a thick and icy texture.
Optional add-ins
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger: For a slight spicy kick.
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds or hemp seeds: Adds healthy fats and fiber.
- Honey or maple syrup: To adjust sweetness.
Instructions
1. Prepare your ingredients: If using a fresh banana, slice it and freeze for at least an hour. Peel and segment your orange.
2. Combine ingredients in a blender: Add the frozen berries, frozen banana, orange segments, yogurt, orange juice, and any optional add-ins to a high-powered blender.
3. Blend until smooth: Start on low speed and gradually increase the speed until the smoothie is creamy and well-blended. If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add more ice.
4. Adjust sweetness: Taste and add honey or maple syrup if needed.
5. Pour and enjoy: Divide the smoothie between two glasses and serve immediately.
Tips
Customize your smoothie: Use pineapple, mango, peaches, or other preferred fruits.
For a vegan option: Use plant-based yogurt and substitute agave nectar for honey.
Make ahead: Prepare the smoothie ingredients in advance and store them in freezer bags. When ready to enjoy, dump the contents into your blender with the orange juice and blend.
