Ingredients:
- 10-12 fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
- 2 teaspoons superfine sugar (or 1/2 ounce of simple syrup)
- 2 ounces white rum
- Club soda, to top
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint sprig and lime wedge for garnish
Equipment:
- Muddler
- Highball glass or sturdy collins glass
Instructions:
- Muddle the mint, lime, and sugar: Place the mint leaves, lime wedges, and sugar in the bottom of your glass. Using a muddler, gently press and twist to release the oils from the mint and the juice from the lime. Be careful not to over-muddle, as this can make the mint taste bitter.
- Add the rum: Pour the white rum over the muddled ingredients.
- Fill with ice: Add enough ice cubes to fill the glass about 2/3 full.
- Top with club soda: Fill the rest of the glass with club soda. Give a gentle stir.
- Garnish and serve: Adorn your drink with a fresh sprig of mint and a lime wedge. Enjoy your refreshing Mojito immediately!
Tips:
- Use good quality rum: A white rum with a smooth flavor profile works best.
- Adjust sweetness to your liking: If you prefer a sweeter drink, add slightly more sugar or simple syrup.
- Make a large batch: Easily multiply the recipe for a pitcher of mojitos!
Variations:
- Experiment with flavored rums like coconut or spiced rum for a flavor twist.
- Try other fruits: Substitute or add muddled strawberries, raspberries, or even watermelon for a unique flavor.
- Simple Syrup: It’s easy to make your own. Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Cool before using.
