Ingredients:
- 2 ounces vodka: Use your favorite brand.
- 1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice: Fresh is key for that bright lemon flavor.
- 1/2 ounce triple sec: Cointreau is a popular option, but any triple sec works.
- 1 ounce simple syrup: Or adjust to taste depending on your desired sweetness.
- Sugar: For rimming the glass
- Lemon wedge: For garnish
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Martini glass or chilled cocktail glass
- Jigger or measuring spoons
- Shallow plate
Instructions
Prep the glass:
- Run a lemon wedge around the rim of your martini glass.
- Pour some sugar into a shallow plate.
- Dip the rim of the glass into the sugar, coating it evenly.
Shake the cocktail:
- Add vodka, lemon juice, triple sec, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very frosty.
Strain and serve:
- Strain the mixture into your prepared martini glass.
- Garnish with a lemon wedge, if desired.
Tips:
- Make your own simple syrup: It’s easy! Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan and heat gently until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool before using.
- The perfect sweetness: Taste the cocktail before straining and adjust the simple syrup if needed.
- For a large batch: Mix the vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a pitcher in advance, then shake individual cocktails to order.
- Experiment: Try using flavored vodkas or adding a splash of fruit liqueur for a twist.
