Ingredients
Base
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
- 1/2 cup milk of your choice (almond, coconut, soy, dairy)
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 1/2 ripe banana, mashed
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Sweetener
- 1-2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
Berries
- 1/2 cup of your favorite berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, or a mix)
Instructions
Combine: In a mason jar or container with a lid, combine all of the base ingredients. Stir until everything is well incorporated.
Add berries: Gently fold in the berries, reserving a few for topping if desired.
Chill: Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, but preferably overnight. This allows the oats to soften and flavors to meld.
To serve: In the morning, stir the oats. If they’re too thick, add a splash more milk to loosen. Top with reserved berries, and enjoy cold!
Tips and Customization
- Make it creamy: For even creamier oats, use a combination of milk and yogurt.
- Sweetness: Adjust the sweetener to your liking.
- Nutty touch: Add a sprinkle of chopped nuts like almonds or walnuts.
- Coconut flavor: Use coconut milk and top with toasted coconut flakes.
- Chocolate: Stir in a teaspoon of cocoa powder with the base ingredients for chocolate-flavored oats.
- Storage: Store your overnight oats in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
