Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4-5 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped (or 1/2 large onion)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Instructions
Prep the Beans: Wash and trim the ends off your green beans.
Cook the Bacon: Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until it’s crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Leave a thin layer of bacon grease in the skillet.
Sauté the Aromatics: Add the chopped onion to the bacon grease and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 2-3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds more.
Cook the Green Beans: Add the green beans, salt, and pepper to the skillet. If desired, add the butter for extra richness. Stir to coat and cook the green beans over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until they are crisp-tender and slightly blistered, about 5-7 minutes.
Finish and Serve: Return the cooked bacon to the skillet and toss to combine all ingredients. Serve immediately as a delicious side dish.
Tips
- Fresh is best: Use fresh, vibrant green beans for the best flavor and texture.
- Adjust the doneness: Cook the green beans to your desired tenderness. Some people like them very crisp, while others prefer them slightly softer.
- Flavor Variations: Add a splash of lemon juice at the end for brightness, or sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a bit of heat.
- Make it creamy: Stir in a bit of heavy cream at the very end for a richer dish.
Enjoy your quick and flavorful green beans and bacon!
